About C and D Landscape Co.
Meet the teamC and D Landscape Company was established in 1977 by lifetime area residents Calvin and Deborah Kearns. Cal left a teaching job in order to pursue a career in landscaping. He started out working by himself, with one truck and a trailer. With the onslaught of the recession in the early 1980’s they found themselves falling on hard times. In 1984 Cal had to sell all of his equipment and even considered getting back into teaching. But landscaping was his calling and he felt that is what he needed to continue to do. He had determination that this would be his profession, and he wanted to strive to be the best landscaper around doing the highest quality work. The following year, 1985, he landed two large jobs, a local city park and a new K-Mart shopping center, that helped get the company back on track. That year C and D grossed more than it had in all of the previous years combined. The company has enjoyed steady growth every year since.
In 2004, we were awarded the McMinnville Chamber of Commerce Medium Sized Business of the Year. We were also honored to receive the 2004 Excellence in Family Business Award from Oregon State University’s Austin Family Business Program. The award emphasized C and D’s efforts to serve the community through volunteer work and for emphasizing quality of service in our growth strategy. Being a family business is a very important aspect of our company. Cal and Debbie’s five children have all been a part of the business throughout the years and now their two eldest sons, Josh and Isaac have made landscaping their careers. The company is a part of everyone’s lives within the Kearns family. We are honored to get to have a chance to work together and maintain such strong relationships while doing a job we love. C and D will be a part of the family and their traditions for years to come.
In 2006 we started on our biggest change in our company to date. Cal and Debbie had the opportunity to purchase some land just down the street from their home, our former office location. The land is 3 acres at the junction 99W and Hwy 18. Once the land was cleaned up and cleared construction on a new office and shop began. We moved into the office in June of 2007 and the shop was completed at the end of 2008. They carefully planned and paid attention to every detail as this had been a long term goal of theirs. The outside has been beautifully landscaped as a showcase area where we can bring our clients and show them several different ideas for their own landscapes.
Over the years, we have grown into a company employing over 60 area residents, supporting their families and contributing back to the local communities. We have a great staff of employees that have proven to be both hardworking and loyal and they bring a great deal of knowledge to the company.
